Accessing India's premium spirits market

Join us for this session as we uncover the changing consumption trends in one of the biggest Alcohol markets globally. The event is aimed at supporting UK alcohol brands find their route to the Indian market.

  • Date: 23 September 2022
  • Time: 10:00 to 11:30 (BST)

India is Scotch whisky’s second-largest export market by volume. According to the Scotch Whisky Association, in 2021 India was the secondlargest export market for Scotch whisky by volume, with the equivalent of 136 million bottles shipped – an increase of 44.3% on the previous year.

India is also currently witnessing two important trends:

Discovery is the new mantra – a younger and more aspirational generation in India is coming of legal drinking age, driving growth not just for whisky but also experimenting with other alcoholic drinks including gin, craft beer, cognac, and premium spirits from across the world. Consumers (particularly in their 20s and 30s) are looking for new and lesser-known international brands and are asking “naya kya hai?” (“can I have something new?”)!

Premiumisation – increasing affluence, the rise of the middle class, and health consciousness is creating a wave towards premium products. This trend is being seen across categories in India and is much more pronounced in the Alcohol sector.

To help create access to this fast-growing Indian market, we’re running this meet the buyer initiative with Vault Fine Spirits – a leading import house of independently produced spirits. Six years since it first launched, Vault now holds over 40 world-class artisan brands across various categories and is bringing them over to top retailers, hotels, and stand-alone bars. Vault is also opening new distribution channels via airport duty-free and creating access to connoisseurs and enthusiasts through its dedicated website and events. The Vault also owns and runs a spirits festival property that is set for a comeback in Mumbai in February 2023.

Join Santander UK and Keshav Prakash, Founder of The Vault in this exclusive session to help uncover this opportunity. The event will also cover the latest trends and route to market solutions for brands looking at India. Registered brands will then get a chance for a 1:1 meet the buyer consultation with The Vault Collection following the session to help discuss suitability and alternatives for their India market entry.

This will be a two-stage event:

  • Stage one: webinar where The Vault and our other speakers will set the scene with some background on current trends and insights, dispel any myths, and present a roadmap for alcohol brands looking to launch their products in India.
    • Event details: 15 September 2022, 10:00 to 11:30 (BST)
    • Registered brands will automatically be put forward for stage two.
  • Stage two: 1:1 consultations with The Vault for chosen brands to assess product suitability. Successful brands will have the opportunity to progress with Vault.
    • Meet the buyer sessions will take place virtually from 1 October to 31 October 2022.
