Decommissioning opportunities in Brazil

  • Date: 10th October 2024
  • Time: 2.30pm – 4pm BST

Brazil is a hub for the oil and gas industry, sitting in the top 10 largest global oil producers.

As sustainable decommissioning becomes more of a focus, there are more opportunities on the horizon for businesses to tap into – and oil major, Petrobras, are leading the way.

They’re launching a mammoth project with the aim of decommissioning 23 platforms between 2024-2028 – and 40 more after 2028 – to move closer towards a sustainable strategy that meets European ESG targets.

From ensuring a smooth shutdown to cleaning and removing contaminants, it’s no easy task. And UK experts can play a pivotal role on the project, as they’ve identified a potential supply chain shortage in the next year.

With US$11 billion capex set aside for the work, businesses with in-depth supply chain and North Sea expertise have the chance to make a sizable impact on Brazil’s decommissioning landscape and grow their presence in the market.

How big is the project?

Petrobras’ current portfolio includes:

  • $11 bn capex – 2024-2028.
  • 14 floating platforms, 9 fixed – 2024-2028.
  • 5 floating units, 35 fixed – 2028+.
  • 1,900 km flexibles (on seabed, and in water).
  • 550 wells to be abandoned.
  • 170 wellhead removals from subsea wells in shallow water.

How can you get involved?

We’re hosting an exclusive webinar with Petrobras, UK government Department for Business and Trade and Energy Industries Council, where we’ll cover what you need to know about the opportunities and partnerships for your business in Brazil.

This session will cover:

  • The current decommissioning landscape in Brazil, and the forecast for the next few years.
  • Current gaps and opportunities in the supply chain for decommissioning services.
