Doing business in Spain and Portugal

  • Date: 20 June 2024
  • Time: 10am BST

Whether you’re taking your first step into international markets, or looking for your next growth opportunity, it can be difficult to know which markets will give you the most bang for your buck.

The Iberian Peninsula offers two high growth markets for the price of one: once you’ve cracked Spain, it’s easier for your business to grow in Portugal (and vice versa). And it even opens the door to other markets including EU, Latin America and Africa.

But where do the main opportunities lie? And how can you find the right partners for growth?

Join us for this webinar, where we’ll be joined by market experts from the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the United Kingdom, Ontier Holdings Limited, the British-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and TELLES Advogados. You’ll learn:

  • How to get set up for success, including important legal considerations
  • How to recruit the right skilled employees to grow in this market
  • What the key sectors are for import and export in Spain and Portugal

Why Spain?

Spain is one of the biggest consumer markets in the EU and is one of the top 10 trading partners for the UK.

The Spanish market is comprised of 17 autonomous communities, each with strong sectoral clusters across the region.

For example, Catalonia is well-known for technology and life science innovation, R&D and presence from international firms. Whereas Madrid is home to many Spanish/EU headquarters for food and drink and manufacturing businesses.

Why Portugal?

Portugal has seen strong growth in recent years and is continuing to grow above the Eurozone average – at 6.7%.

The country has a strong IT infrastructure, making it a hub for service centres and remote working across the technology, media and telecoms sector.

It is also a popular market for nearshoring as Portugal is a strong supply chain facilitator, manufacturing raw materials such as cotton and cork which can be utilised across manufacturing industries including fashion and construction.
