The global Health and Wellness Foods market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6%, to reach $1.1 trillion by 2027, and Asia Pacific is expected to be a strong contributor to this growth.

With the ASEAN economy expected to continue to grow to become the fourth-largest economy in the world by 2030, households’ disposable income is on the rise leading to a greater share of the household wallet now being spent on food and drink. As the overall Food and Drink market continues to expand within Southeast Asia, it’s given rise to an increasing demand for healthy and nutritional food products as consumers become increasingly health conscious.

Due to religious beliefs, mainly among Buddhists and Hindus, veganism has been a staple diet in ASEAN countries. However, veganism is now on the rise as it is seen to contribute to a healthier lifestyle. In Singapore, vegan retailers and plant-based food and drink companies are growing strongly. This is in line with Singapore’s ‘30 by 30’ vision, where the government is focused on building up its Agri-food industry to ensure the island nation has the capacity to produce 30% of nutritional needs locally and sustainably by 2030.

The Protein-based Food segment has seen a large spike in demand as consumers seek food that possesses nutritional value and health benefits. There’s also demand for functional food, drinks, and healthy snacks.
