Malaysia - A key pillar to ASEAN manufacturing

Back in September, Santander, together with the Malaysia Investment Development Authority, CIMB, DIT and Make UK ran a virtual session on Malaysia’s manufacturing sector and the opportunities it offers to UK businesses.

Malaysia continues to be an attractive destination for international companies eyeing growth opportunities in the ASEAN region with the government supporting investor-friendly incentives even during the pandemic. It is equipped with superior infrastructure compared to many of its ASEAN neighbours and boasts a well-educated workforce. To date, more than 400 UK companies have a presence in Malaysia.

From a manufacturing perspective, doing business in Malaysia complements the increasing trend of global off-shoring activities. The Manufacturing sector underpinned by its strength in Electrical & Electronics along with Machinery & Equipment, continues to play a key role in Malaysia’s development with strong external demand. The sector embraces the use of technology and is at the cutting edge of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR).

  • In 2019, 21.4% of Malaysia’s GDP was derived by the Manufacturing Sector2
  • The manufacturing sector captured 55% of FDI inflow in 2020 and also recorded a 10.3% rise from 20193
  • In May 2021, manufacturing sales grew 37.2% YoY to MYR122.7 bn led by the Electrical & Electronics sub-sector4

From this webinar, you’ll learn about the trade and investment opportunities available, and more importantly, hear from the experts on what help is on offer to access these opportunities for UK businesses of all sizes.

Key speakers from this webinar include:

HE. Ambassador Zakri Jaafar - High Commissioner of Malaysia to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland
