Wholesale & Retail: Capturing growth from international markets and diversifying supply chains

Santander’s Trade Barometer shows that international businesses see a number of future operational challenges, particularly relating to post-Brexit regulatory changes and bureaucracy (40% of wholesale & retail respondents). Furthermore, 47% of businesses anticipated Supply chain disruption to be a key challenge over the next 12 months. However, 58% of companies are optimistic about growth over the next 3 years: the EU remains a key focus region (31%) but they see non-EU territories such as North America (30%) and China (24%) also offering significant opportunities for expansion.

In this video podcast, we are pleased to be joined by Richard Lim who is CEO of Retail Economics, Ash Kumar, Founder & Creative Director, Native Youth and Humphrey Henry of Export Unlocked. During our discussions we reflected on the key Trade Barometer theme of Diversification and how companies focusing on opening up new overseas markets and sales channels and taking advantage of digitalisation to grow can position themselves to win in international markets.

One of the questions for our panel stemmed from our Trade Barometer findings around the operational challenge of identifying trustworthy international partners, connections and customers: So how do we overcome this hurdle?
